The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) is to purchase 86 more protected vehicles for use in Afghanistan, it was announced on 26 June. The UK has ordered an additional 14 B vS 10 Viking tracked armoured vehicles from BAE Systems Hag-glunds and a further 72 Jackal 4×4 vehicles, based on a Supacat design, from Babcock Marine. Costing a total of GBP14 million (USD28 million), the Vikings will be delivered in three variants: nine repair-and-recovery vehicles (RRVs), four troop carriers (TCVs) and one command vehicle (CV). The MoD is understood to have ordered the vehicles in early June, but details only came to light at the Defence Vehicle Dynamics exhibition held at Millbrook Proving Ground in England on 25 and 26 June.
