The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have offered a 10-day "unilateral ceasefire devoid of military actions" as a sign of their "co-operation for the success" of a summit of South Asian leaders due to be held in Sri Lanka's capital, Colombo. The leaders of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka - members of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) - are to begin the two-day summit on 2 August. However, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohita Bogollagama declared that the government would not respond to the LTTE's 22 July offer.
