The UK's GBP10 billion (USD20 billion) Search and Rescue - Harmonisation (SAR-H) project could stall unless government ministers move rapidly to select a prime contractor, industry executives have told Jane's. Although there had been suggestions that government ministers might have made an announcement on the progress of the private finance initiative (PFI) project at July's Famborough International Airshow, a Ministry of Defence spokesman told Jane's before the show that none was scheduled. Industry executives fear that the selection of a preferred bidder from three contenders could be pushed into 2009, or even as late as 2010, rather than this year as had been planned. The SAR-H project is unique in the UK because it involves the joint purchase of search-and-rescue services over 30 years by both the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Department of Transport (DoT).
