Mexican congressmen from the naval commission have approved a MXN6.1 billion (USD610 million) boost to the budget of the Navy Secretariat (SEMAR) for 2009, it was announced on 10 August - compared with the current 2008 budget of MXN13.5 billion. The almost 50 per cent increase is aimed at funding the Mexican Navy's long-term modernisation.
