Sweden's Saab downgraded its full-year sales and earnings guidance for 2008 on 4 September, citing delays in the order intake for major international projects and "uncertainties in respect of Swedish defence materiel spending". The group told investors to look towards organic sales growth of 3 to 4 per cent (compared with guidance of 5 per cent issued at the start of the year) and an operating margin in the region of 8 to 9 per cent (down from 10 per cent). In addition to domestic spending and international order issues, Saab said: "Delays in ongoing major commercial aircraft projects have led to a revised, lower production plan in Saab's aerostructures business. Also, market development for the technology business in South Africa is weaker than anticipated."
