The Afghan National Army (ANA) is looking to develop a close air support capability as part of a longer-term plan to build its air corps. US Air Force Major General Jay Lindell, the commander of Combined Air Corps Transition Force, said in a briefing on 15 September that Afghanistan planned to acquire a 'light attack' capability by 2013. "We are developing a close air support capability," he said. "We do plan to bring on initially an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability in the year 2011. We are still researching how we're going to do that, but 2011 is our target year. We want to build the architecture of an information operation system, a net-centric capability much like how the US Air Force would fight."
