Canada has taken delivery in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of the first of six CH-47D Chinook helicopters it is buying from the US Army for CAD292 million (USD249 million). However, the delivery of the rotary-wing aircraft calls into question the future of Canada's CAD4.7 billion project to acquire 16 CH-47F helicopters. The first contingent of trained Canadian crews is working with US crews, conducting operational training and familiarisation flights with the two 'D' models, while a second contingent is undergoing training in the United States.
