1. Out-of-service dates for the UK's Duke-class frigates have been extended to 2023-36, 2. Helicopter carrier HMS Ocean will remain in service until 2022: four years later than previously planned. The UK Royal Navy's (RN's) 13 Duke-class (Type 23) frigates are now scheduled to remain in service for between 32 and 36 years - up to twice as long as originally intended. A service career of 18 years per frigate was anticipated when the first of the 13 vessels remaining in RN service were commissioned in the early 1990s and their expected lifespan was raised to 27 or 28 years in the early 2000s.
