The UK's Chief of Defence Materiel, General Sir Kevin O'Donoghue, has questioned the contention that there is a GBP1.5 billion (USD2.3 billion) gap in the UK's core defence budget, although he conceded that the armed forces' 'needs list' is greater than available resources. During the first evidence session on UK defence equipment on 18 November, which saw industry leaders give evidence to the House of Commons Defence Committee (HCDC), Chairman of the Defence Industries Council andformer Chief Executive Officer of BAE Systems, Mike Turner, voiced concerns that industry does not have adequate funding to realise the UK Defence Industrial Strategy's (DiS's) "vision of saving money via efficient through-life capability".
