South Korea's Defence Reform 2020 plan remains on track despite worsening economic pressures, the country's Ministry of National Defence told Jane's on 25 November. "We are aiming for reform by 2020," said a spokesman. "Yes, the plan has been affected by the economy in South Korea and the world, and it is difficult to say how it might affect it further, but we are not delaying the plan to [for example] 2025." The MND spokesman's comments followed those of Kim Kyoung-deok, head of the Defence Reform 2020 programme, who was quoted by South Korea's national news agency as saying that a revised plan would see more gradual spending than was originally anticipated.
