China and South Korea have set up hotlines between their naval and air force command headquarters to try and reduce the risk of conflict in the Yellow Sea. The establishment of the military hotlines will help prevent "accidental clashes" between the two countries, the South Korean Ministry of Defence said on 23 November. It also made South Korea the first foreign country with a direct line to Chinese military commands, although Beijing established a similar hotline with the US in March 2008.
