Peruvian President Alan Garcia and Russian President Dimitry Medvedev have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding defence equipment and training co-operation. The agreement, signed on 24 November, will allow the establishment of a joint helicopter repair plant in Peru, as the first of several projects intended to be implemented under the accord. The new joint helicopter servicing facility will be set up in Lima, Peru, by Rosoboronexport and Oboronprom along with Peruvian company Industria Aeronautica del Peru (INDAER, Peruvian Aeronautical Industry). The centre will be able to perform maintenance, repair and modifications on Russian-made Mil Mi-17 ('Hip H') and Mi-26 ('Halo C') transport helicopters and will eventually expand its capabilities to provide a service to other helicopter types.
