Now the dust is settling on the text of the UK government's Defence Industrial Strategy, Nick Cook warns that true capability and innovation is needed right down to the level of small- to medium-sized enterprises to preserve what is required of the UK defence industrial base The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) , under the direction of Defence Procurement Minister Lord Drayson, has made clear within the DIS that it cannot sustain the breadth of capabil-ity that the UK defence and aerospace industry has enjoyed in the past. However, it emphasises that key skills and capabilities need to be retained to ensure the UK can safeguard its sovereignty and national security well into the future.
