France's Alcatel will fold its satellite subsidiaries and other business units into Thales under a deal announced on 5 April by both companies with approval from the French government. According to Thales: "French government representatives indicated that, given the commitments made by Alcatel to respect national strategic interests, the merger between Alcatel and Lucent [Technologies of the US] does not put into question the strategic partnership concluded with Thales."
