Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) MBT Missiles Division has extended the application of its LAHAT (Laser Homing Anti Tank) missile to airborne platforms. Originally developed as a main battle tank (MBT) munition, LAHAT can be fired from standard 105 mm and 120 mm tank guns with only minor modifications to the MBT's fire-control system, and is loaded and fired like a conventional round of ammunition. LAHAT features a solid propel-lant motor that ejects the missile from the barrel - after which four stabilising fins at the rear unfold to sustain its flight - and a nose-mounted, gimballed, semi-active laser (SAL) seeker.
