Raytheon's Evolved SeaSparrow Missile (ESSM) "now appears to be capable of intercepting low-flying targets over its full employment range", according to the Netherlands Ministry of Defence (MoD). The statement followed the evaluation of a series of live ESSM firings, conducted in March 2005 from the Royal Netherlands Navy's (RNLN's) first-of-class air-defence and command frigate HrMs De Zeven Provincieen.
