Terma A/S (Lystrup, Denmark) has signed a delivery contract with Lockheed Martin to provide two Soft-Kill Weapon System (SKWS) decoy launchers for USS Freedom, the first of two US Navy Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Flight 0 prototype vessels built by Lockheed Martin. The deal is significant because the US Navy is planning to order a large series of LCS surface combatants, 58 of them currently being considered, said Thomas Blom, Terma's director for naval systems business development. "Now that we have the contract to supply SKWS for USS Freedom, which is likely to be followed by an order to equip the second Lockheed Martin-built LCS Flight 0 ship, we have established a good reference to be selected for the series production phase."
