Following the withdrawal of its forces from the Gaza Strip, the Israel Defence Force (IDF) is establishing a new border zone around Gaza, secured by sensors, manned and unmanned platforms and remotely controlled weapon stations. "This will become Israel's most advanced and protected border," a senior IDF source told JDW. While no accurate legal definition has yet been determine, the IDF has been ordered to regard the Gaza Strip as sovereign Palestinian territory and its borders as international boundaries. The border has been set in accordance with the 1993 Israeli-Palestinian Oslo Agreement line and the 1949 Israeli-Egyptian Armistice agreement.
