摘要

Although blessed with stability in the last 30 years, under the wise and benevolent leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, we are conscious of the shifting sands of the geopolitical environment, particularly the changes that have occurred in the last 15 years, with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan dominating the events in the region. The Sultanate of Oman has close ties with its neighbours, both economically and militarily, and is one of the six member states of the Gulf Co-operation Council. It is acknowledged that we are in a strategic area; our northern border guards the Straits of Hormuz and we have regional responsibilities. However, we also have our own priorities, an important part of which is the support of the civil infrastructure.
