摘要

Facing a shortage of sound intelligence information in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US Army is to embark on radical reforms to the way it collects, processes and disseminates intelligence. With enemies expected to increasingly hide among civilian populations and employ sophisticated denial and deception techniques, army intelligence will need "orders of magnitude improvements to keep up", Gen Keith Alexander, the army's Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, told reporters on 8 April. In Iraq, Gen Alexander told Congress a day earlier, "analysis and sensing capabilities were inadequate at manoeuvre brigade and battalion echelons [and] there was a notable degradation of situational awareness for forces on the move because of a lack of an adequate network and the inability to fuse all source intelligence".
