The first of two new Flexible Support Ship -Flexible St0tteskibe (FS) - vessels for the Royal Danish Navy (RDN) is due to commence sea trials from the facility of Odense Steel Shipyard (OSS) at Lindo in late June. It will then be handed over to Denmark's Naval Materiel Command (NMC) at the end of July. At 137m in length and displacing 6,300 tonnes fully loaded, the as-yet unnamed L16 and its sister ship L17 will be the largest-ever ships to serve with the RDN. Built at a total cost of DKr2.1 billion ($334 million), the duo are intended to meet the RDN's requirement for a larger multirole vessel able to undertake command, logistic support and limited sealift functions.
