UK science and technology organisation QinetiQ has delivered production-standard examples of its Cerberus swimmer detection sonar for testing and evaluation in the US. Developed as a private venture by QinetiQ's Marine & Acoustics Centre at its facilities in Winfrith and Bincleaves, the Cerberus system leverages technology pulled through from the UK Ministry of Defence's applied research programme. The baseline sensor is a high-resolution 100kHz wideband high-frequency active search sonar covering 360° in azimuth and offering a range put to approximately 800m.
