Israel and the US are preparing to test the Arrow Weapon System (AWS) at the US Navy's Naval Air Warfare Center/Weapons Division (NAWCWPNS) Sea Range at Point Magu, southern California, at the end of this month. While he would not confirm that the target will be a 'Scud' short-range ballistic missile (SRBM), a US defence source told JDW that the more expansive Point Magu will allow the Israelis to fly the Arrow out to a greater range and to be tested against a "robust and more diversified target set". The US has said it has acquired an inventory of 'Scud' missiles from former Soviet bloc countries.
