Germany's Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) has released details of a new medium-weight 155mm/52-cal artillery system it is developing as a private venture. The Artillery Gun Module (AGM) is intended to meet the need for self-propelled howitzers (SPHs) capable of being deployed in large transport aircraft, such as the Airbus A400M, to support rapid intervention forces. The concept was revealed for the first time at the Land Warfare Conference 2004 in Melbourne, Australia, held in late September.
