Much to the delight of Pakistan's foreign affairs community, Pakistan became a frontline state for the Bush administration after the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks on the USA. The partnership changed Pakistan's position from a pariah state to a frontline ally, with the military leadership in Islamabad suddenly getting political, economic and military support from the USA.
