摘要

Russia earned $4.4 billion from military exports in 2001, according to preliminary figures, said Russian President Vladimir Putin at the 26 December Security Council meeting on military-technical co-operation (MTC) with foreign countries. Putin's statement seemed to contradict a representative of the Committee for Military-Technical Co-operation (CMTC), who said late last year that "the $4 billion mark had been exceeded but that the target figure of $4.2 billion had not been reached yet". Experts, however, note that the differences in the data cited by Putin and the CMTC may be due to arms deliveries to the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan (Jane's Defence Weekly 5 October 2001).
