The US Air Force (USAF), together with the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), will decide - possibly by the end of February - whether to accelerate development of the global positioning system (GPS) Block Ⅲsatellite programme and work towards the launch of the first Block Ⅲ satellite some two years earlier than planned. Speeding development of the Block Ⅲ programme could affect the number of Boeing GPS Block IIF satellites the service procures, say USAF and industry officials.
