US Marine Corps (USMC) snipers with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) conducted field evaluations of the new Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR)/M14 during their recent deployment to Kandahar in Afghanistan. The DMR is an enhanced 7.62mm version of the M14rifle, theUSMC's former assault rifle that was replaced by the 5.56mm M16. USMC armourers modified it to include features like a match-grade barrel with removable sound suppressor, glass-fibre stock, removablebipod and x10 power scope.
