The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has selected BMT Defence Services, teamed with Advantage Technical Consulting and DML, to perform first-stage Assessment Phase studies for the UK's planned new Primary Casualty Receiving Ship (PCRS). This follows an Initial Gate approval for the programme in December 2001. Due to enter service in 2007, the PCRS is envisaged to be an integral part of a maritime or amphibious task group. It will embark a medical complex capable of treating a significant number of casualties, as well as wards for post-operative care.
