As US Army Chief of Staff Gen Eric Shinseki enters his last months leading the force, the plan he laid out three years ago to 'transform' for 21st century warfare continues to face resistance within the service and out. Many defence and industry officials support the effort to build lighter, fast-deploying forces, and their backing has enabled the army to establish new Stryker Brigade Combat Teams and accelerate work on futuristic combat vehicles.
