A key design requirement of the Alvis Vickers Multi-purpose Lightweight Vehicle (MLV) is that it protects its occupants from anti-personnel (AP) and anti-tank (AT) mines as well as from small-arms fire and shell splinters. The Italian Army is expected to order a first batch of 100 vehicles in the next few months from IVECO's Defence Vehicles Division in Bolzano, Italy. After trials with these, Italy is expected to order at least 2,500 vehicles for a wide range of battlefield roles (Jane's Defence Weekly 25 September).
