Lockheed Martin has proposed a naval precision-strike weapon that has the ability to attack surface ships and littoral land targets, including moving vehicles, at stand-off ranges. The company says the weapon, called the Vertical Launch Autonomous Attack System (VLAAS), meets the US Navy's requirement for an anti-surface ship capability geared against small and fast patrol craft. It also provides surface ships with the ability to engage time-critical targets like armour and mobile missile launchers.
