Applying modular concepts to warship design and construction is not a new idea. But the Royal Danish Navy (RDN) is unique in its adoption of a common platform design and combat system infrastructure able to accept modular, interchangeable mission payloads according to its tasking. Akin to a 'snap-to-fit' kit, this concept - known as Standard Flex - is now enshrined as the materiel and logistic foundation that will underpin the future Danish surface fleet.
