The Phantom Works, Boeing's process-innovation and prototyping organisation, will boost the value of technology transitioned into the parent Boeing Company this year by $500 million - from $2 billion to $2.5 billion- compared with 1999. Through a string of new programmes, it is also managing, albeit marginally, to boost the value of research and development (R&D) captured by Boeing, despite an austere budget climate. Company and government-funded R&D, most of it administered by the Phantom Works, is running at almost $2 billion per year across Boeing.
