Russian Navy ships have begun using the harbour of the Spanish enctave Ceuta again, two years after their resupply visits were suspended amid complaints from NATO allies about aiding Russia at a time when it was taking an increasingly active part in the Syria conflict. Three ships called at the port city in North Africa on 9-12 November to restock supplies and for crew shore leave, days after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Madrid. They were led by the 10,000-tonne Slava-class missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov, which was accompanied by the tug SB-406 and the tanker Dubna. Marshal Ustinov forms part of the Russian Northern Fleet based at Severomorsk on the Barents Sea, from where it left in July to head to the Eastern Mediterranean.
