The Pentagon has confirmed the deployment of prototype passive sensor systems for long-range surveillance against fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, unmanned aircraft systems (UASs), and cruise missile (CM) threats. The US Army has fielded the Army Long-Range Persistent Surveillance (ALPS) passive sensor to the US Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM), US European Command (USEUCOM), and US Central Command (USCENTCOM) in support of a Joint Urgent Operational Needs Statement (JUONS), Lieutenant General James Dickinson, head of Army Space and Missile Defence Command/ Army Forces Strategic Command, said on 3 April at a Senate Armed Services Committee strategic forces subcommittee hearing.
