South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has said it will expand its import substitution programme during 2019 as part of efforts to reduce dependency on foreign technologies and boost defence exports. DAPA said on 18 March that it will collaborate with local industry to ensure that 92 essential military components previously imported from foreign suppliers are built locally during 2019, adding to the defence parts and systems that were successfully produced within the country in 2018 under the first phase of the programme.
