The UK government has announced a range of new initiatives to support the country's defence-industrial base as part of the 2018 Defence Prosperity Programme, which seeks to improve the defence sector's contribution to the country's economy. Under the plans revealed on 14 March the UK's Defence Innovation Fund is to invest GBP500,000 (USD658,727) to perform a pilot programme with industry "to enhance the competitiveness and productivity of the UK supply chain". Part of this funding will be used to create a Joint Economic Data Hub within the UK Defence Solutions Centre (UKDSC) in Farnborough to "collect and aggregate economic data from across the defence sector". Engagement with academia will also be boosted, with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to sponsor a defence economics conference at Kings College London.
