摘要

As the six-month clock counts down to the US withdrawal from the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, Washington will focus wholly on bringing Russia back into the INF fold. Failing that, it excludes no option - including the possible stationing of missiles in Europe to counter Russia's new 9M729 land-based cruise missile, the US administration's senior disarmament official has hinted. US Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Andrea Thompson told reporters via video conference on 6 February, "There are no current plans for that [deployment], but the important thing to say here is that we have engaged early on with our allies and we continue to discuss [policy implications after the US withdraws] with them."
