Brazil's new head of state, Jair Messias Bolsonaro, has used the first days of his presidency to reach out to Israel, pledging to visit the country by March. Bolsonaro has already discussed following the US lead by transferring the Brazilian embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Israel has welcomed these overtures. "Israel is the promised land; Brazil is the land of promise," said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a meeting with the then president-elect in December 2018. He added that Israel could aid Brazil in areas such as economics, security, agri-culture, and water resources.
