Hellenic Air Force fighters launched two preliminary flights over North Macedonia on 21 May in anticipation of the announced patrolling of that country's airspace once it joins NATO as its 30th member in 2020. The purpose of the flights, carried out each time by a pair of F-16s flying out of Larissa Air Base, according to Macedonian sources, was to check the communications and radarcoverage over North Macedonia. Greece currently already polices the airspace of NATO members Albania and Montenegro.
