The Chinese government will impose sanctions on companies in the United States involved in US-government military sales to Taiwan, a spokesman from China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed. The spokesman said in a press briefing in Beijing on 12 July that the move is a response to an announcement by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 8 July that the United States plans to sell USD2.2 billion worth of materiel to Taiwan, including General Dynamics M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks and Raytheon Stinger missiles.
