French Air Force engineers have completed the apron and taxiway for a new airtransit facility in Senegal, the French Armed Forces Ministry announced on 10 August. It said the 25th Air Engineer Regiment used 8,000 m3 of concrete in the work at Blaise Diagne International Airport. The Air Support Operations Group will now begin constructing the facility's buildings. The French Armed Forces Ministry announced it was transferring its air transit facility, an important hub for its forces in West Africa, from Senghor International Airport in Dakar after Blaise Diagne was opened in December 2017. Bahrain has signed an agreement that confirms it will purchase the Patriot air defence system, Raytheon announced on 13 August. "This letter of offer and acceptance allows the US government to begin contract negotiations with Raytheon for production of an undisclosed quantity of systems and missiles [for Bahrain]," the announcement stated. The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency(DSCA)announced on 2 May that the US State Department had approved the sale of two Patriot fire units with 60 Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) missiles and 36 GEM-T missiles to Bahrain for an estimated USD2.5 billion.
