Saudi role for Garcia Vilasanchez The former president of Spanish state-owned shipbuilder Navantia has been recruited by Saudi Arabia to run the naval division of its national defence company. Esteban Garcia Vilasanchez will head naval operations as a vice-president of Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI). Garcia Vilasanchez left Navantia after three decades in 2018. Under his leadership Navantia signed a EUR 1.9 billion (USD2.1 billion) order in April 2018 to build five corvettes for the Saudi navy. Part of the agreement involved setting up a joint venture with SAMI called SANNI (Saudi Arabia Navantia Naval Industries).
