UK companies won a 19% share of the global defence equipment export market in 2018 and overseas sales of security equipment also increased, according to official statistics released on 30 July. Data on sales to overseas defence ministries and armed services, provided voluntarily by UK companies to the Department for International Trade Defence & Security Organisation (DIT DSO), showed that they received GBP14 billion (USD17 billion) worth of orders (based on licence approvals) in 2018, compared with GBP9 billion the previous year.
