Military and civilian representatives from 50 countries attended a meeting at the headquarters of US Central Command (CENT-COM) in Tampa, Florida, on 25 July to flesh out UK proposals to form a European-led naval force to protect merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. A senior UK defence source told Jane's that the proposals generated at the meeting are now being considered by governments. "Representatives have sent back the output of the meeting to their governments," said the source. "It's time for capitals to make decisions."
