The Guatemalan Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced the acquisition of a logistics support vessel for its navy. The ship will be a BAL-C vessel (Bote de Apoyo Logistico y Cabotaje) manufactured by Colombian state-run company Corporation de Ciencia y Tecnologia para el Desarrollo de la Industria Naval (COTECMAR). The vessel is the first ship of its class that the Guatemalan Navy has acquired. It will be used to deliver humanitarian assistance, carry out search-and-rescue operations, and combat transnational maritime crimes in Guatemala's Pacific waters, the MoD said in a release earlier this month.
