The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) summed the development of the country's armed forces in 2018 and detailed hardware deliveries for the next year at a meeting of its board on 18 December. The proportion of modern systems in service with the Strategic Nuclear Forces (SYaS) has reached 82%, according to Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu. "In 2018 the SYaS received five upgraded strategic aircraft, including one Tu-160 and four Tu-95MSs.Regarding new weapons, Shoigu noted that aircraft armed with Kinzhal hypersonic missiles had conducted 89 patrol flights over the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea up to that point.In 2018 the Russian Ground Forces received 2,200 weapon systems and 10 newly activated units and formations, while the Russian Aerospace Forces were reinforced by 126 aircraft, nine space vehicles, and 120 air-defence systems. The Russian Navy commissioned 14 surface combatants, 11 logistics vessels, and four Bal and Bastionmobile coastal defence missile systems (MCDMSs). Russia's Airborne Troops, meanwhile, received 300 weapon systems and 11,000 parachute kits.
