The US Army is still plotting the course ahead for a permanent Indirect Fire Protection Capability (IFPC) and is seeking additional information from Rafael about its Iron Dome system. Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy and Chief of Staff General James McConville briefed reporters on 19 February about the service's most recent budget request and plans to field a variety of weapons including Iron Dome. Last year the service agreed to buy two Iron Dome batteries to fill a 'short-term need' for an IFPC: a mobile, ground-based system designed to defeat unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and cruise missiles.
