The Qatari Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 27 December that it had donated 24 Storm armoured personnel carriers (APC) to the Armed Forces of Mali (FAMa).The MoD said the vehicles were airlifted to Mali aboard several Boeing C-17 transport aircraft the day before and would be used for security operations in Mali and the four other G5 Sahel countries (Burkina Faso, Chad, Mauritania, and Niger).The FAMa said the 24 APCs were handed over in Bamako on 27 December and would be used by infantry in areas where there is a high threat from improvised explosive devices (lEDs) and mines.Built on a Toyota Land Cruiser 79-series chassis and powered by a 195 hp Toyota 4.5-litre V8 turbo diesel engine, the Storm is produced by the Qatari company Stark Motors.The vehicle can accommodate between 8 to 10 people, including the driver, depending on the seating arrangements.
